pearl and red coral necklace and bracelet set (Ref DSC_5163)

Designed by our healer, twenty two polished pieces of coral and twenty three pearls with silver beads and catch, making this necklace very special, together with the matching bracelet, a truly wonderful gift. Approx size, necklace 18", bracelet 8".
Coral was long thought to be a powerful talisman that could stop bleeding and protection from evil spirits. The ancient believed in the protective and invigorating powers of coral, in many countries this tradition lives on, red coral necklaces are given to small children. Coral is one of the seven treasures in Buddhist scriptures and Tibetan Lamas use coral rosaries.
Fragile Coral trees were once brought to the surface by means of drag nets. But today, the harvesters use more environmentally sound methods: deep-sea divers collect the branches by hand, there by not damaging the source, and enabling the coral to re-grow.
