Carnelian is one of the oldest known gemstones, once considered only to be worn by the noble class. This stone was also buried with people holding a high social status. Runes are sculptured symbols derived from ancient Norse and Germanic alphabets. They have been used in northern Europe since the fourth century as a means of divination.
